Volkswagen inicia la construcción de su primera planta en EEUU, en la que invertirá 740 millones

El grupo alemán Volkswagen, primer fabricante de automóviles de Europa, inició hoy la construcción de su primera planta en Estados Unidos, que se levantará en la ciudad de Chattanooga (Tennessee) y que supondrá una inversión de mil millones de dólares (unos 740 millones de euros al cambio actual). Esta nueva planta, clave en la estrategia de crecimiento de Volkswagen en Norteamérica, entrará en funcionamiento en el año 2011, ocupará una superficie de 6,4 kilómetros cuadrados y tendrá una capacidad de producción anual de 150.000 unidades. Las nuevas instalaciones, que contarán con una plantilla de 2.000 trabajadores, fabricarán un sedán de tamaño medio especialmente desarrollado para el mercado norteamericano. El 30% de los vehículos estará propulsado por motores limpios con tecnología diésel TDI.
