Telefónica ha realizado un estudio analítico de Big Data tomando como punto de partida la exposición Piedad y Terror en Picasso. El Camino a Guernica, organizada por el Museo Reina Sofía, con motivo del 80 aniversario de la creación de Guernica (1937), de Pablo Ruíz Picasso, y de la llegada a sus salas hace 25 años.

En el contexto del Museo Reina Sofía, la aplicabilidad de Big Data  (nueva tecnología con enormes capacidades de cómputo y almacenamiento) se ha traducido en la posibilidad de explotar los miles de datos generados por los visitantes en los cinco meses que ha durado la exposición (del 5 de abril al 4 de septiembre).

El trabajo surgió gracias a la colaboración de Telefónica como patrono del Museo Reina Sofía, siguiendo con la estrategia de la empresa de colaborar con la institución en la aplicación de la tecnología para mejorar la experiencia de los visitantes. Telefónica dispone de una unidad de negocio dedicada al Big Data, llamada LUCA, en la que se enmarca la consultora Synergic Partners que ha realizado el trabajo.

Hasta la fecha, los datos sobre visitantes de este o de cualquier museo se han basado en estudios de opinión y estadísticas, pero el Big Data, incorpora un elemento  nuevo y es el estudio del comportamiento del público utilizando herramientas tecnológicas de última generación que permiten analizar un número ingente de datos. 

Cabe destacar que para la ejecución de este proyecto se han manejado varias fuentes de información, tanto de carácter interno, derivadas de la propia actividad del Museo, externas y totalmente independientes a su actividad: meteorología, escucha activa de medios y redes sociales, calendario de festividades o datos de movilidad, entre otros. En esta ocasión se ha utilizado la solución Smart Steps y que sirve para la explotación de datos de movilidad.  
 Algunas de las principales conclusiones derivas  del estudio se pueden resumir en los siguientes puntos:

  • Aproximadamente el 50% de las personas que están en la zona censal del Museo entran en el mismo día o lo que es lo mismo una de cada dos personas que pasan por la zona entran a este centro de arte. Y en este caso, se ha comprobado que la exposición se convirtió en catalizador de la actividad económica de la zona, con un aumento del 18% respecto al trimestre anterior
  • La exposición ha sido visitada por más de 680.000 personas. Los visitantes proceden de 189 países; los italianos suponen el 17,4% del total de las visitas y un 33% de los extranjeros, siendo el sábado su día preferido, seguido de franceses, de los cuales uno de cada dos visitan el Museo; el domingo es su día predilecto.
  • Siguiendo con el análisis censal de las visitas, 4 de cada 10 son nacionales, caracterizándose por comprar la entrada el mismo día que acuden a la exposición.
  • En cuanto a patrones de comportamiento, se observa que la climatología extrema favorece el aumento de visitas al Museo, tanto las precipitaciones como la bajada repentina de temperatura en los meses de calor;  suponen hasta un aumento del 33% de las vistas.
  • Por otro lado, no solo con el día festivo incrementa, como es lógico, el número de visitantes, este aumento también se produce en los 3 días anteriores o posteriores según la festividad.
  • En el estudio se han utilizado herramientas de Social Listening, que permiten analizar los resultados registrados en canales digitales de entre los millones de menciones que se producen al día en internet. De esta escucha social, se aprecia que el 97% de los resultados sobre la exposición y el Museo presentaban un sentimiento positivo. Twitter es la plataforma que más conversación ha generado, detectándose que la participación de mujeres fue del 48% por el 52% de hombres.

El desarrollo de este proyecto ha permitido conocer y  analizar  el comportamiento del público  que en ese período acudió al Museo.

Con ello se conseguirá  optimizar y enriquecer la toma de decisiones desde el Museo para que  la experiencia de las futuras  visitas mejore y el impacto de la institución aumente de manera positiva; en resumen, se trata de  mejorar la eficiencia operativa descubriendo patrones de comportamiento  que ayuden a conocer y perfilar  de una forma más completa al visitante del Museo. Si se conocen los datos del entorno, se podrá conocer mejor qué quiere su público, qué busca, cómo realiza su visita, etc.

Teniendo esta información se puede mejorar  su experiencia. Este proyecto es solo el inicio de sucesivos estudios encaminados todos ellos a facilitar la consecución de la información que posibilite mejorar la relación con el público, la calidad de la visita y de sus expectativas.
