·         La Empresa ha comenzado la construcción del parque eólico de Mihai Viteazu, de 80 megavatios (MW), que entrará en funcionamiento a finales de este año y será el primero de la Compañía en este país

IBERDROLA RENOVABLES, líder mundial en energía eólica*, ha iniciado la construcción en Rumanía del parque eólico de Mihai Viteazu, de 80 megavatios (MW) de potencia. Esta instalación será la primera infraestructura de la Empresa en Rumanía y  estará situada en el distrito de Constanza, en la región de Dobrogea, al sureste del país.

El parque de Mihai Viteazu va a construirse con tecnología de la empresa Gamesa, con 40 aerogeneradores de 2 MW de potencia cada uno y entrará en funcionamiento a finales de este año. Además, su construcción va a ser desarrollada por IBERDROLA INGENIERÍA Y CONSTRUCCION.

Esta instalación va a suponer la primera fase de ejecución del Complejo Eólico Dobrogea, el proyecto más importante en energías renovables desarrollado en el mundo hasta la fecha.

Esta ambiciosa iniciativa va a incluir la puesta en marcha de hasta 50 instalaciones eólicas, que pueden sumar 1.500 MW de potencia. La Compañía pretende construir estas instalaciones entre 2011 y 2017.

La potencia de este complejo eólico permitirá a la Empresa generar la energía suficiente en Rumanía como para suministrar electricidad a cerca de un millón de hogares, el equivalente de la población de la capital del país, Bucarest, evitando además la emisión a la atmósfera de 1,25 millones toneladas anuales de CO2.

IBERDROLA RENOVABLES ya ha suscrito con el operador de la red rumana (Transeléctrica) el acuerdo que establece las condiciones para conectar a su sistema eléctrico nacional los 1.500 MW de este proyecto, así como el contrato de conexión para la primera fase de 600 MW. Esto supone el acceso de energía eólica a red de mayor volumen dado hasta la fecha en Europa.

IBERDROLA RENOVABLES está llevando a cabo todas sus iniciativas en Rumanía junto a  la empresa Eólica Dobrogea SRL -participada por el grupo de ingeniería suizo NEK Umwelttechnik AG y las compañías rumanas C-Tech Srl. y Rokura Srl-. Esta compañía, pionera en su país en el desarrollo de proyectos renovables, es la encargada de la promoción de los mismos -planificación y  obtención de los permisos de construcción-, mientras que IBERDROLA RENOVABLES es la responsable de  la construcción y explotación de las instalaciones eólicas.

La Empresa abrió una oficina en Bucarest en 2009 con el fin de seguir reforzando su presencia en Europa del Este, en donde ya cuenta con parques eólicos en operación en Polonia (161 MW) y Hungría (158 MW) e impulsa otros proyectos en Estonia y Bulgaria, lo que le ha convertido en la Compañía líder del sector en el este de Europa.

IBERDROLA RENOVABLES, presente en 23 países,  ha sido la Empresa que más potencia renovable ha construido en el mundo en 2010, tras poner en marcha 1.780 MW. Esta cifra le ha permitido afianzar su liderazgo mundial* en el sector de las renovables, en el que es líder por potencia -con 12.532 MW al cierre de 2010- y producción -gracias a los 25.400 gigavatios hora (GWh) producidos el pasado año-.
