La empresa china Hithium Energy Storage Technology ha anunciado este martes la inversión de 400 millones de euros para construir en Navarra una nueva gigafactoría de almacenamiento estacionario, que supondrá la creación de unos 1.000 nuevos empleos.

La presidenta del Gobierno de Navarra, María Chivite, ha calificado este proyecto como un "hito" para el sector industrial de la energía en la comunidad foral.

La gigafactoría incluirá dos procesos industriales de alto valor añadido, como son el ensamblaje y la manufactura de celdas. El proyecto creará en una primera fase alrededor de 750 puestos de trabajo directos y 300 más en una segunda fase, según los datos que ha ofrecido María Chivite en una comparecencia en la que ha estado acompañada del director de Inversiones de Hithium, Hao Wang, y del consejero de Industria y Transición Ecológica y Digital Empresarial del Gobierno foral, Mikel Irujo, tras el encuentro que tuvo lugar el lunes con el presidente del Gobierno de España, Pedro Sánchez.

En la rueda de prensa, Chivite ha anunciado una 'joint venture' que el Gobierno de Navarra y Hithium firmarán en las próximas semanas, por la que ambas partes aportarán capital a una nueva compañía conjunta que supone "un hito en la colaboración público-privada".

Hithium es una empresa china fundada en el año 2019 que tanto la presidenta como el consejero de Industria y Transición Ecológica y Digital Empresarial, Mikel Irujo, visitaron en noviembre del año pasado en China. La compañía está especializada en sistemas de almacenamiento de energía estacionaria, cuenta con múltiples centros de I+D+i y con plantas de producción. "Se trata de una empresa líder en este segmento en China y la número dos del mundo", ha destacado Chivite.

La presidenta ha resaltado que el proyecto anunciado para Navarra "no solo supone una inyección de capital y de empleo directo, sino que se inserta en una estrategia más amplia de reindustrialización y especialización tecnológica".

"El sector de baterías y almacenamiento energético es uno de los nichos industriales con mayor proyección de crecimiento en Europa y la llegada de Hithium coloca a Navarra en un papel destacado dentro de este mapa industrial, que está en continua evolución", ha señalado.

María Chivite ha afirmado que el almacenamiento de energías renovables es además uno de los "mayores desafíos tecnológicos" de esta época, especialmente en momentos como el actual por las "tensiones geopolíticas". "Disponer de energía renovable a precio asequible potenciará de manera exponencial nuestra competitividad, productividad y capacidad de atracción de nuevos proyectos industriales", ha destacado.

La presidenta ha asegurado además que la colaboración entre el Gobierno de Navarra, el Ejecutivo central y Hithium puede "convertir a Navarra en un referente europeo en materia de almacenamiento energético y energías limpias".

Según ha afirmado el representante de la compañía, el acuerdo que se firma este martes es un primer paso en una colaboración a largo plazo con el Gobierno de Navarra. "Seguiremos trabajando en las siguientes etapas del proyecto, que tiene potencial de convertirse en un activo industrial muy importante a largo plazo", ha subrayado, para resaltar que, "cuando la innovación internacional se une con la excelencia tecnológica a nivel local, eso es una vía hacia adelante para potenciar todo el sistema".

Por último, Mikel Irujo ha afirmado que Navarra lleva varios años identificando a China "como un país prioritario", y ha indicado que este proyecto es "un trabajo en equipo". "La decisión de Hithium llega tras un coordinado trabajo en el seno del Gobierno con todos los departamentos y llega tras un esfuerzo y un refuerzo del equipo fruto de una reflexión interna en la que debíamos de profesionalizar la atracción de inversión y debíamos también apostar claramente por el potencial de China", ha señalado.
