El juez federal encargado del caso abierto contra Jerome Powell por su supuesta negligencia en la renovación de la sede del banco central ha suspendido las citaciones emitidas por el Departamento de Justicia contra el presidente de la Reserva Federal (Fed) al entender que la causa abierta es de naturaleza política.

"Por otro lado, el Gobierno no ha aportado prácticamente ninguna prueba que permita sospechar que Powell haya cometido un delito. De hecho, sus argumentos son tan endebles e infundados que este tribunal no puede sino concluir que se trata de un pretexto", ha abundado.

Pese a que la investigación iniciada a instancias de la Casa Blanca buscaba forzar un recorte de tipos desde la Fed, no todos los republicanos se han mostrado de acuerdo con la decisión de la Administración Trump de investigar a Powell.

En este sentido, el senador republicano por Carolina del Norte Thom Tillis advirtió de que bloquearía la nominación del próximo presidente de la Fed, Kevin Warsh, el cual fue elegido en enero por Trump, a menos que se diera carpetazo definitivo al asunto.
