Oliu ha indicado que, aunque la sede social de la entidad esté ahora en Sabadell, "donde corresponde por ser la ciudad que vio nacer y que da nombre a la entidad", su "corazón y aprecio está y estará siempre en Alicante y la Comunitat Valenciana".

El presidente de la entidad ha explicado que "2025 ha sido un año clave para Banco Sabadell, marcado por un proceso de OPA que acabó siendo rechazada por la mayoría de nuestros accionistas". Ha señalado que operación planteada por el BBVA fue "lícita", pero chocaba con "tres pilares fundamentales".

El primero, que "separados creamos más valor para nuestros clientes y accionistas que juntos"; segundo, que "una hipotética fusión de grandes bancos en España reduciría la competencia en la oferta de financiación para las pymes, y tercero, que además se requería una prima al accionista que fuera suficiente para renunciar al valor del proyecto futuro del banco en solitario que no se alcanzó durante la operación". "Al final de este proceso, Sabadell ha salido fortalecido para enfrentarse a los nuevos retos competitivos", ha asegurado.

El responsable de Banco Sabadell ha incidido en que Europa ha definido unas prioridades estratégicas de cara al futuro inmediato en materia de defensa, energía, infraestructuras críticas y transición climática que "requieren una reflexión sobre el papel de los bancos y del sistema financiero, de cara a orientar mejor los ahorros disponibles".

Oliu ha destacado que "será necesario afrontar, conjuntamente, el tema de la infraestructura europea de pagos, y el de la simplificación regulatoria; temas ambos que están en la agenda de las autoridades supervisoras del sistema financiero y también en la de los bancos de la Unión Europea".

Asimismo, ha subrayado que el euro será importantísimo para la estabilidad de la Unión Europea y que incrementar su "robustez requiere, no solo atender la cuestión de los fondos de garantía de depósitos, que son el elemento pendiente de la arquitectura de regulación, supervisión y resolución bancaria, sino también evitar que la fragmentación de la regulación europea en cuestiones fiscales o procesales continúe provocando que el propio desarrollo financiero en Europa no alcance la amplitud necesaria para facilitar una mayor liquidez a las transacciones y proyectos paneuropeos".

El presidente de Sabadell ha puntualizado que "no se propone la desregulación sino la simplificación regulatoria o supervisora". A su juicio, "hay recursos que se podrían liberar, y ha pedido "facilitar a los bancos la agilidad suficiente para acometer los modelos de financiación que el futuro requiere y en algunos casos, estar a la altura de la competencia no europea".

INFRAESTRUCTURA DE PAGOS EUROPEA

Oliu ha señalado que la UE quiere potenciar la Unión del Ahorro y la Inversión y él ha añadido además que es necesaria "la configuración de una infraestructura de pagos europea eficaz, que pueda garantizar la autonomía europea de los datos".

El presidente de Banco Sabadell ha expuesto que las infraestructuras de pago, hoy basadas en visa y mastercard, Apple Pay, etc., están avanzando para facilitar los pagos de forma más rápida y segura. "En este sentido, Bizum en España fue una iniciativa pionera, que hoy cuenta con aproximadamente 30 millones de usuarios y realiza más de 3,4 millones de transacciones diarias", ha destacado.

Oliu ha indicado que "el euro digital, promovido por la Unión Europea, será otro elemento constitutivo de esta arquitectura de pagos pan-europea". Ha señalado que "el núcelo de la UE estará conectado por un sistema de pago en los próximos dos años" y que "la arquitectura de pagos va a cambiar el paradigma en el que nos movemos".

ALIANZAS

Oliu ha señalado que "el reto de las empresas y de los bancos consolidados es el de seguir el ritmo de la innovación mediante los partners adecuados". "Trabajamos con alianzas estratégicas europeas o con partners tecnológicos para seguir dando nuevas respuestas a las nuevas necesidades, siempre manteniendo esta conjunción entre estar en la punta tecnológica y ofrecer atención personal de nuestra gente", ha asegurado.

También ha explicado que Sabadell ha decidido salir del mercado de Reino Unido, con la venta de la filial TSB, para "poner más foco en España y mejorar la oferta global de servicio a las empresas españolas".

Josep Oliu ha indicado que para Banco Sabadell la competitividad en el futuro vendrá condicionada por diferentes factores como "las alianzas estratégicas funcionales que mejoren la calidad de la oferta para los clientes", "estar en la ola de la innovación tecnológica" y mantener el arraigo a los territorios.

"Estamos preparados para conseguirlo, con toda nuestra capacidad y con relaciones desplegadas en el entorno competitivo europeo. Estoy seguro de que en el futuro el banco formará parte de la respuesta que Europa necesita para fortalecer su capacidad de innovación y desarrollo de esta gran región europea que es España", ha concluido.
