No sólo las empresas establecidas son las únicas que intentan monetizar la IA, ya que las empresas emergentes están proliferando. Según datos de PwC, en 2018 había unas 940 empresas de IA identificadas por el informe PwC – CB Insights Money Tree. 1.- BGF World Tech: es un fondo denominado en USD de renta variable y dentro de la categoría de tecnología. El fondo tiene activos que superan los 1.251 millones de euros, tiene una antigüedad que se remonta a 1995, gestionado desde 2013 por Tony Kim (rating AA de Citywire), con más de 20 años cubriendo el sector en BlackRock, Artisan Partners, Credit Suisse AM y Neuberger Berman. Su proceso de inversión es completamente bottom up, buscando empresas disruptivas que capturen buena parte de la cuota de mercado. Es tan conocedor del mercado que incluso toma posiciones en empresas de pequeña capitalización y en mercados emergentes.  Al cierre de enero, el fondo tenía una exposición algo superior al 8% en empresas de baja capitalización y un 26,5% en mediana, y un 44,8% en alta capitalización.

El fondo consistentemente se ubica en las primeras posiciones respecto a sus competidores, tanto por rentabilidad como por máxima caída.

En 2019 alcanzó una rentabilidad del 46,23% con una volatilidad en torno al 18% y un ratio de sharpe de 1,53 y un alfa a 3 años de 2,34.

 

 

El fondo, como casi todos los que se analizarán, tiene una fuerte concentración en EE.UU. (51%), seguido de China (9,7%) y Brasil (5,2%), con una posición de liquidez y derivados del 10,4% (al 31/ene/2020).

En cuanto a la exposición sectorial, el mayor peso es en software, IT y semiconductores que superan el 50% de los activos. La cartera está compuesta por 104 acciones en total, en donde las 10 mayores representan en torno al 26% y entre las que encontramos a Tesla Inc, Magazine Luiza, Twilio entre otras.

2.- Polar Capital Global Technology: perteneciente a la gestora que da su nombre y con activos que superan los 16,8 mil millones de euros en 26 fondos y 13 equipos de inversión. Con oficinas en Londres, N.Y, Connecticut, Paris, Shanghai, Jersey y Edinburgo. La gestora nació en 2001, al igual que el fondo que nos ocupa. El fondo tiene activos por 3,5 mil millones de euros, con un active share del 54,69% invertido en 77 posiciones. Las 10 mayores posiciones representan el 41,5% de los activos y entre ellas destacan nombres tan conocidos como Microsoft, Alphabet, Apple, Alibaba, Facebook, Samsung, Amazon, entre otras (nombres más conocidos que el anterior fondo).

El gestor es Nick Evans (rating A de Citywire), que se incorporó en 2007, proveniente de Axa Framlington. Es un fondo que consistentemente bate a su índice de referencia y que a 3, 5 y 10 años ocupa los primeros lugares del ranking, no así a un año. Su enfoque es de crecimiento, y con fuerte sesgo a empresas de muy alta capitalización (superior al 70% de los activos a diferencia del anterior).

 

 

Este fondo tiene aún mayor peso a EE.UU, superior al 77%, 12% en Asia ex Japón, 5% en Japón y 4% en Europa, con una liquidez del 9%. El fondo tiene una volatilidad inferior al BGF, de 16,42%, al igual que el sharpe de 1,48 y una rentabilidad media a 3 años de 26,7% también ligeramente inferior.
