En marzo, el precio de una onza de Oro fue 125 veces más alto que la misma cantidad de Plata, un récord que se remonta al menos a 1687, según citan fuentes desde Reuters.

El valor del Oro se está estabilizando y saliendo de la distorsión que le provocó durante el crash la falta de liquidez de los grandes fondos, los caules, al vender todos sus activos incluido el Oro, provocó que su valor cayera también y perdiera en esos momentos su calidad de activo refugio.

Al ir reactivándose la economía, se va recuperando también la demanda de la Plata.

Plata, Los inversores apuestan por la plata

Los precios de la Plata cayeron a 11,62 dólares por onza troy a mediados de marzo dejando un mínimo de 11 años, pero desde entonces el metal se ha recuperado hasta los 15 dólares ya que las tenencias de fondos negociados en bolsa respaldados por plata alcanzaron un récord este mes de 675 millones de onzas.

Los analistas del Bank of America predicen que la Plata podría aumentar hasta 20 dólares en los próximos 12 meses a medida que el crecimiento económico se recupere.

El Oro aumentó un 11% este año, impulsado por la demanda de los inversores por el activo refugio tradicional. Las participaciones en fondos negociados en bolsa respaldados por Oro aumentaron siete veces en el primer trimestre a un máximo histórico de 3.185 toneladas en marzo, según el Consejo Mundial del Oro. El reciente repunte en el metal amarillo fue un signo de profunda ansiedad respecto al sistema financiero global.

Ningún otro par de activos se mueven tan dependientes entre ellos como lo hacen el Oro y la Plata. Se han movido en direcciones opuestas en menos del 25% de las sesiones de trading desde 1968 y solo en una ocasión fueron en sentido contrario durante 7 días seguidos.

Aproximadamente la mitad de la demanda de Plata proviene del sector industrial, incluida la industria del automóvil y la energía solar, lo que le ha hecho más vulnerable a los efectos económicos del coronavirus. Los proyectos de energía solar se están retrasando mientras la cadena de suministro de productos electrónicos se ha visto afectada por una demanda de consumo más débil. 

Los analistas de Metals Focus predicen que la demanda industrial de Plata podría caer un 7% este año, por los descensos provocados por la crisis económica ante los parones en todas las industrias. 

Es poco probable que eso se compense con el cierre de minas de Plataen México, Perú y Argentina, dejando un superávit de 14,7 millones de onzas este año, pronosticaron.

Suki Cooper, analista de Standard Chartered, dijo que: "la Plata tendía a necesitar una sólida demanda tanto de los inversores como de las industrias para obtener un rendimiento superior, lo que probablemente no ocurra hasta finales de este año".

Aún así, para muchos inversores, la Plata es demasiado “barata”, incluso dada la desaceleración provocada por covid-19. Ian Williams, presidente del fondo Charteris Treasury Portfolio Managers, dijo que: "la Plata era tan buena como el Oro como protección contra la inflación".

Ian Williams  dijo también que, "Puede retroceder 3.000 años antes de Cristo: la Plata nunca ha sido tan barata en relación con el Oro". "No hay una razón justificable". “Cuando la Plata realmente comience a despegar, los retornos en Plata frente a un productor de Oro son de dos a tres veces”.

Entre los mayores ganadores en el sector hasta el momento se encuentran First Majestic Silver, una minera cotizada en Toronto cuyas acciones aumentaron en un 29 por ciento el mes pasado, aproximadamente el doble del aumento en el índice de referencia canadiense.

La semana pasada, el multimillonario minero canadiense Eric Sprott realizó su mayor inversión personal en Plata, comprando una participación de 42 millones de dólares millones) en MAG Silver, que cotiza en Toronto.
